From age 16 Phoenix Arizona born artist Danny Praught was producing artwork for peers and local business in the form of signs, illustrations, album covers, and airbrushed clothing. After undergoing a two year A.A.S. degree course in Advertising Art (only 7 including Danny finished in a class of 62 students), he immediately moved to Southern California (Home of his Mother, Sandy) to make a first impression on the world. Orange County's "Signs of the Times" hand painted Holiday windows was born to cater to the Christmas market of 1987 (and many following years). This was a definite seasonal success giving a great boost to the young freelance artist.
By 1988 freelancing as a graphic designer, working part time in a print shop, and producing custom airbrush art, the Original Airhead Airbrush Art was officially created and soon to become another success. Danny had made a name for himself and business was booming. He was also developing a style quite unique, yet heavily influence by 1950's and 60's Kustom Kulture artist like Big Daddy Roth, as well as contemporary artists such as Hajime Soyayama, and local artists such as Bob's Crazy Brush. Local bikers and gear-heads alike sought after artwork for their machines. By now business was taking a life of its own, and new projects loomed on the horizon.
In 1989 Danny worked for Sign Mart for a 2 year project creating Real Metal signs not just airbrushing the metal effects onto paint. These were typically polished or brushed aluminium or brass, as well as several different grades of stainless steel. CNC water jet cut from plate or sheet and hand "touched" and finished. Clients included the newly built Los Angeles Green Rail, L.A Hilton, Global travel and the US Air Force.
By 1992, Still freelancing as well he completed some awesome artwork in local clubs and pubs, including the giant murals in clubbing hotspots such as the Red Onion, and Stone Pony and some larger signs and murals for the infamous OP Pro Surf contest in Huntington Beach.
In 1994 producing airbrush art as well as commercial signs and banners to pay the bills, Air Head picked up and moved to the United Kingdom for a change of scenery and pace - and of course there was a matter of a wedding.
1996 started the generation of "New Media" and web designs were added to the portfolio along with designs for print and signs.
Danny took some time off in the late '90's for a few years to invest in some more technical ventures (Planet802), but is now back and producing artwork in the traditional manner, as well as offering all the modern digital imaging services. We still get the frequent requests for customer airbrushing and sign writing and will always offer these as long as there is a market for them.
Now in 2006, with 20 years experience in print and design, Danny's Designs are back in the form of A5 Signs and Print. We hope you appreciate our work as much as we do. Unlike many other Sign shops that simply "cut vinyl", we strive for something a little bit more. Our experience and knowledge as well as our hunger for perfection ensures that every job we do we always give our best work, and always look to do a job well done. Mediocrity is not an option !
